On Saturday, October 18, David de la Torre sscc, auxiliary bishop of Quito and secretary general of the Episcopal Conference of Ecuador, visited the General House on Via Rivarone together with three Ecuadorian delegates who have traveled to Rome for the canonization of Sister María Troncatti.
Previously, the Ecuadorian delegation had been received in audience at the Library of the Apostolic Palace by Pope Leo XIV, to whom they presented a sculpture of Saint Augustine by an Ecuadorian artist.
David gave the community a painting with a replica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus by the Italian painter Trento Longaretti. For their part, the three young Ecuadorian delegates offered the brothers a cucurucho, as can be seen in the images.
This Sunday, October 19, Leo XIV will canonize seven new saints, among them Sister María Troncatti, Daughter of Mary Help of Christians (Salesian), an Italian missionary who dedicated 47 years of her life to Ecuador, particularly in the Apostolic Vicariate of Méndez, where she devoted herself entirely to the service of the Amazonian peoples.
The Presidential Council of the Ecuadorian Episcopal Conference (CEE), accompanied by several bishops, religious, and laypeople, traveled to Rome on Tuesday, October 14, to participate in the ceremony, which coincides with World Mission Sunday (DOMUND 2025). Among the group is Juwà Juank Kankua Bosco, a member of the Shuar people and the protagonist of the miracle attributed to the intercession of Sister María.
