Tomás Esquerdo begins his experience in Mozambique

Religious brother Tomás Esquerdo sscc (from the Iberian Province) has landed in Marera, Mozambique, to begin a new stage of service and connection with the local community. After months of processing his visa, he finally arrived on March 5th, Ash Wednesday, in what he describes as a “estou a vir” (process of “being on the way”)—a common Mozambican expression that reflects a way of perceiving time and distance based on relationships and encounters with others.

Since his arrival, Esquerdo has discovered a new way of measuring life, where minutes and kilometers are replaced by conversations, greetings, and the opportunity to share the moment with those around him. In his first reflections, he expresses how this journey is not just physical but also spiritual, inviting him to detach from the unnecessary and to walk with Jesus in a Lent that, rather than a destination, becomes a path of learning and transformation.
