On Monday August 17 morning, with the final assembly at the House of Prayer of the Dominicans in Santiago, the canonical visit to the Province of Chile by the general councilors Pankras Olak and Felipe Lazcano was concluded.
The visitors met with 57 brothers and 7 novices; visited 12 communities in the Province and had the opportunity to meet with the SSCC sisters, members of the secular branch, several Bishops as well as diverse groups of people participating in the works of the Congregation. They were welcome in all the places and all the visit went well.
In the final assembly the visitors encouraged the brothers to maintain the good level of community life and general communion being practiced in the province. The province has 59 brothers, but it is growing old. There have been few new professions in recent years. However the volume of work remains the same.
In particular the visitors invited the province to renew their spiritual life, to be more present in the "margins" (where we are already present, and to discern the suitability of a new presence), to seriously stand the challenge of youth and vocations, and also to strengthen the monitoring of the decisions and the work of the various provincial commissions. To carry out all this, the province needs to discern how to reorganize our presences, to prioritize and to reduce commitments.
The visit ended and the Provincial Chapter began, which will continue until Friday, August 21. The issues being raised during the visit will also be the subject of reflection and discernment during the chapter.
