The Congregation of the Sacred Hearts (United States Province) sponsored a two day celebration for the 150th anniversary of Damien's arrival to the islands. On May 9th there were two masses held at the Neal S. Blaisdell Arena: a student liturgy held in the morning and a parish liturgy in the afternoon. On May 10th, a special mass for St Damien's feast day was held at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace. Following the mass, a rally and prayer service was conducted at the Hawaii Sate Capitol in front of the St. Damien statue.
May 21st marked the 150th anniversary of St. Damien's priestly ordination at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace. Ajit Baliar Singh received his ordination that very day also at the cathedral.
