The winter storm “Hernando” recently struck the northeastern United States with great intensity, leaving nearly two feet of snow in some areas and causing power outages.
Despite the magnitude of the storm, our brothers are doing well. At the Damien Residence in Fairhaven, the religious community was especially grateful to have a generator, as their part of town experienced an extended power outage.
For his part, Fr. Maiki Kamauaho sscc reported that St. Mary’s Church was without electricity for approximately one hour. Since many streets still needed to be cleared, both school and Mass were canceled. Local authorities estimate that the roads will be fully cleared and passable by Saturday.
As snow removal efforts continue, the community is living these days as an opportunity for recollection: enjoying a cup of hot chocolate, contemplating the beauty of the winter landscape, dedicating time to prayer, and preparing to resume pastoral ministry with renewed spirit.
