The two general governments had another of their study sessions, February 20 till 23. This way of being together has been going on now for some years. This year we met in Siena in the house of the Daughters of Charity who gave us a warm welcome.
We reflected on our religious vows. Albert Toutin animated the session. We began with a visit to the baptistery of the Cathedral of Siena given that our religious vows are rooted in our baptism . Later we shared what concerns us today about the vows. Alberto offered a review of the experience of Jesus-discipleship from the outset of the church up to the universal call to holiness in Vatican II. He took the opportunity to relate the vows to the missionary renewal for which Evangelii Gaudium asks and in relationship with conjugal spirituality expressed in Amoris Laetitia.
All of this helped to reread the vows under various aspects including the communitarian dimension and of course taking the Congregational documents (Constitutions and Rule of Life) into account.
Alberto’s input and the ensuing conversations -experiences and reflections- were enriching for the participants. The impact of our days together was helped out by two movies related to the theme and a stroll around the lovely city of Siena.
