On May 10th, on a bright afternoon in Harlingen, Texas, brother Gaberieli Saunivalu sscc made his perpetual vows. The ceremony took place on the feast day of St. Damien of Molokai and was presided over by Father Lane Akiona sscc, Provincial of the U.S. Province, accompanied by Father Bob Charlton sscc, formator and pastor of Queen of Peace Church, and Father Paulo Lui Voreqe sscc, who served as Master of Ceremonies.
During the Mass, Father Bob delivered a moving homily that brought together four significant events: Good Shepherd Sunday, the welcoming of the new Pope Leo XIV, Mother’s Day in both Mexico and the U.S., and the feast of St. Damien. He highlighted brother Gaberieli’s commitment as a faithful response to God’s call, inspired by the love revealed in the Sacred Hearts. Like the apostles, he invited Brother Gabby to find joy even in difficulty, for the love of Christ.
After the Eucharist, a warm reception was held by parishioners. Two of Gabby’s sisters joined from the South Pacific via video, expressing their gratitude and love. The community gave thanks to God with a heartfelt "Vinaka vaka levu" for brother Gaberieli’s generous “Io” (yes), asking for abundant blessings upon him and his family in this new stage of consecrated life.
