On February 10th, 2024, was a day of joy and a day that Br. Emmanuelle del Castillo sscc was prepared for. On this day, Br. Emmanuelle took his final vows to religious life in the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts.
The profession was held at Sacred Hearts Mission Church, which branches out from Maria Lanakila Parish. The Parish of Maria Lanakila and Sacred Hearts Mission Church were founded by the Congregation when they were serving on the Island of Maui. The former Pastor of Sacred Hearts Mission Church and the Provincial Superior of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts US Province Very Reverend Fr. Lane Akiona received the Profession of Vows of Br. Emmanuelle del Castillo sscc. The calling of the candidate was done by Br. Richard Kupo sscc, and it was unique to have the only brother in Hawai’i do the calling. Br. Emmanuelle's vocation is solely for the brotherhood, and for the longest time, we have someone being called to the vocation of a brother. Since the entire Province of the Sacred Hearts in the United States combined, this is the first brother vocation out of the United States and second overall in the US Province. It was a significant event and profession in Maui because this is the first time we have a profession outside of ‘O’ahu, and it's good to have a profession in a place where the congregation used to have a mission, especially in Lahaina, which was Hawai’i's ancient capital.
The day was a day of joy for Br. Emmanuelle’s family and also for the community of Maria Lanakila Parish. It was nice to see the entire community help out with the profession, revealing the spirit of “aloha” where everyone is ‘ohana (family). ‘Ohana helps one another, and no one is left behind. The day continued with family and friends celebrating this marvelous step and calling that Br. Emmanuelle has said yes to. Br. Emmanuelle will be residing in St. Patrick Church in O’ahu and helping out with the ministry there.
