On Saturday, December 13, the ordination to the diaconate of Ignacio Cervera sscc took place in a festive and very family-like atmosphere at the Church of Christ the King in Madrid (Spain). SSCC sisters and brothers, family members, friends, and young people from youth ministry from the different places where the new deacon has served gathered for the ordination.
Monsignor Vicente Martín Muñoz, Auxiliary Bishop of Madrid, made possible a celebration inspired by the charism of the Congregation. The bishop began and concluded his homily by giving thanks and congratulating the deacon. He emphasized contemplation as a way of drinking from the sources, living fraternity, and proclaiming through apostolic service. He recalled that the diaconate is a service to the Word, to the poor, and to the Eucharist. He also spoke of the diaconate as a service to Christ the Deacon, and made reference to Saint Damien of Molokai.
In his thanksgiving, Ignacio Cervera quoted the poem by León Felipe:
“I go with tight reins
and holding back my flight,
because what matters is not arriving alone or quickly,
but arriving with everyone and on time.”
