Bernard (1090-1153), Cistercian monk, abbot of Clairvaux, adviser to popes and kings, preacher of the Crusade, was above all a man thirsty of solitude in order to devote himself to penance and prayer, and well into the Mystery of God.
His fiery experience of the Word incarnate, his filial love for the Virgin Mary makes his abundant literary production a master of Western spirituality.
He died in 1153.
