The sisters who make up the Solidarity Economy Commission met at the General House in Via Aurelia, Rome, from May 27 to June 8, 2024.
The meeting began with a prayer to give thanks for these years of service as a Commission. The agenda included: the study of the Reports of the countries and works of 2023, the distribution of the Solidarity of the Congregation 2024, the report of the General Administration for the next Chapter, information on the visits of the General Treasurer to Kinshasa and Mexico, the review of the Financial Policy of the Congregation, the Evaluation of the CES, the sharing on the document Mensuram Bonam and the meeting with the General Government.
The sisters appreciated the work environment, the availability for the different services, the distribution of time, greater knowledge of the Congregation from the economic point of view, and shared challenges such as formation in economic and financial culture, language and awareness that “every purchase is a moral act and not simply an economic act” as Pope Francis says.
A day's break was a good opportunity to visit Ostia Antica, an important commercial and port centre from the 4th century BC, near Rome. Finally, the General Government thanked the CES, with a festive dinner, for its responsibility in the task entrusted to them.
