Life and missionary spirit of Damian for us today (Indonesia)

On May 10th at 16.00 Hawaii time, Fr. William Petrie sscc was asked by a Senior Group of Indonesians who take Saint Damian as their Patron, to give them a talk on the great St Damian. This was the first zoom meting as part of ongoing formation for this Senior Group of Brothers in Indonesia. To organise this event, the Senior group collaborated with the Scholastic Brothers in Jogyakarta. The talk was open to all brothers, sisters and members of the Secular Branch, SSCC youth and our parishioners. Around 40 people were present to listen to Fr. Bill.

Fr. Petrie encourage us with his vocation inspired by Damian, and shared his great desire to be missionary in India, even if he needed to wait for many years. He also shared how Mother Teresa welcomed him and expressed her desire for followers of St Damian to serve the people in India. He addressed the centrality and closeness to Jesus as the source of strength of Damian in his life and in his service to the lepers. He also shared the richness of how Damian took the names/identity of Jesus, such as servant, and Shepherd, based on Scripture passages, which he recommended us to read and follow.

Because of the limited time only one brother from Singapore and some Sisters from India shared feedback. As coordinator of this Senior Group (Damian Group) Fr Patric expressed his thanks to Fr Bill and his gratitude to all the brothers, sisters and secular branch who attended the sharing. May the Spirit of Damian really live in our SSCC family and service.
