Deacon ordination (USA)

On Friday, May 10th, on the Feast Day of St. Damien of Molokai, Brother Lomano Tonga Fifita, sscc of the US Province was ordained to the Diaconate at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Suva, Fiji by the Archbishop of Suva - Archbishop Peter Loy Chong.

Deacon Lomano was born and raised in the Kingdom of Tonga. He made his first vows in December 2019 in California, USA and is in his last year of his seminary studies at the Pacific Regional Seminary of St. Peter Chanel.

Those present at his Diaconate were: Father Lane Akiona sscc, the Provincial Superior of the US Province; Father Johnathan Hurrell sscc, the Superior of the House of Formation in Fiji; Father Marisi Palepale, sscc, our Sacred Heart Seminarian Brothers of the US Province, and Deacon Lomano’s Family from Tonga, Australia, and New Zealand. During the Archbishop’s Homily, he reminded the Deacons to “use the right tools for evangelization” and to work humbly with the People of God.

After the Ordination, we invited Deacon Lomano’s family and friends to our SSCC Fiji House of Formation for a reception. Deacon Lomano gave a word of thanks to all his formators, family, and friends for the continued prayers and support towards his discernment. Starting Sunday, May 12th, 2024, he will be doing his ministry at Holy Eucharist Parish in Laucala Bay. Deacon Lomano looks forward to what lies ahead in his journey. We ask that you please continue to pray for him. Thank you from the beautiful islands of Fiji!
