The communities of sscc sisters and brothers in Rome gathered at the sisters’ Generalate in Via Aurelia on 23 November to celebrate the feast of our Foundress, Henriette Aymer de la Chevalerie. During the Eucharist we had in mind the reality of violence in the world, especially in Ukraine and Congo, as well as the recent earthquake in Indonesia.
In his homily, Andrzej Lukawski, Postulator General, brought up some words of Fr. Flavian Prat, former Superior General of our Congregation, that justified why Mother Henrique was called "good". He stated in her beatification process that: "In her 35 years as superior, it was impossible to find any nun who did not testify that she was well received and showed herself to be good at every opportunity: hence her name 'Good Mother'. All those who were close to her remembered her goodness (...). Her principle was to relieve any human misery she encountered and, despite her own privations, she managed to come to the rescue, and sometimes generously (...). She could not deny charity even to the invaders of 1830 who came to plunder the house. The essence of her character was a kindness that does not refuse a request".
During the celebration we remembered Patricia Villarroel and Margarita Orozco, who are on a canonical visit to Peru, Aurora Laguarda who is in the Philippines and Alberto Toutin, who is attending the meeting of the Union of Superiors General. After the recitation of the Salve, the two communities came together for a celebratory meal.
