Canonical visit to the community of Montenegro (Peru)

From April 8 to 11, Enrique Ramírez sscc and Jean Blaise Mwanda sscc carried out the canonical visit to the community of Montenegro, in Lima (Peru). After personal interviews with each brother, they held a community meeting. One of the topics discussed: the option for young people. How do you see this process of allowing yourselves to be transformed by young people in your community?

  • Young people have an authentic search for God, both in the parish and in university ministry. We realize that they grow up in an environment where opportunities are lacking and where high levels of violence and insecurity prevail. They must make their way in a hostile world, devoid of social and political meaning. And the Church does not help, as it has lost its presence, vision, and social commitment.
  • It moves us to think that most are not baptized, and I wonder about the prospects of the next generation. This invites me to reflect on what needs to be done. On the other hand, there is a good percentage of committed young people who give me hope for the future of the Church. We believe that the attitude to adopt in order to get closer to young people is not to bring God to them, but to go and find God among them.
  • Listening to young people in the very difficult context in which they live makes us merciful, puts us in their place, with open and attentive eyes, sensitive to their stories. They help us see the Gospel in a different way and fill me with hope for change.

On the morning of April 11, there was a visit to 21 chapels of the parish of Our Lady of Peace (Lima), and at noon, a fraternal meal shared with the religious sisters who collaborate there.
