226 years of worldwide presence in a new book (USA)

Father Brian Vincenzo Guerrini sscc has just published a book titled "SS.CC. in the World: Among the Nations of the World — The SS.CC. Global Presence, 1800–2026", a 161-page work documenting the missionary history and presence of the congregation across five continents over more than two centuries.

The work traces the founding of the congregation in France in 1800, amid the climate of religious persecution generated by the French Revolution, when the young priest Pierre Coudrin and the noblewoman Henriette Aymer de la Chevalerie together founded this community dedicated to prayer and mission. From its humble origins in Poitiers, the congregation — also known as the Picpus Community — rapidly spread throughout Europe, Asia, Oceania, North America, Central America, South America, Africa and the Middle East.

The book details the SSCC presence in more than 60 countries, including nations as diverse as Brazil, Japan, the Philippines, Mozambique, Hawaii, Indonesia and many others. It also records tragic historical moments, such as the 1842 shipwreck of the Marie-Joseph, in which 25 members of the congregation perished while travelling as missionaries to the Pacific.

The publication includes historical images, an extensive bibliography and a chronological index of the SSCC presence from 1855 to 2026. The author resides in the SSCC community of La Verne, California (USA).
