A new comic book of Fr. Damien in Flemish (Brs)

Just published in Belgium, a new comic on Father Damien is the work of Bart Maessen (religion teacher in Damien Institute in Aarschot) and Ruben Boon project director, Damien Center Louvain.  They wrote the text and Jan Bosschaert illustrated the comic with a very personal style.

The project has been funded by the sscc province of Flanders and by the sscc Delegation of the Netherlands. This comic from Damian, in Dutch, will be a source of inspiration for young and old.

On the back cover of the comic, you can read: "After his death in 1889, Father Damian has become a national icon, witnessing his election as" the greatest Belgian of all time." His solidarity, which crossed borders of nationality, skin color, faith and philosophy of life, continues to serve as an inspiration. But how did Joseph De Veuster, a young man from Tremelo, go to Molokaï, where he was a pioneer in ecumenism and a human rights activist, for those expelled from society?

…and Damien remains earth-bound

More from Damien and designs. The Belgian airline, Brussels Airlines launched a competition to select a new Belgian character who would be depicted on company aircraft. Damien was among the entrants, designed by the cartoonist Jan Bosschaert, with the patronage of Damiaan Vandaag (Damien today). Although finally the jury did not choose Damian, the idea was no flight of fancy.
